Richard Dinnick (born on 22 January 1968) is a British writer, who has written for many media including novels, audio dramas, short stories and comic strips. He works in the science-fiction, fantasy and thriller genres. He has written for several SF franchises including Doctor Who, Stargate, Sapphire & Steel and Space 1889. He attended Middlesex University.

Dinnick has appeared at many Doctor Who conventions in recent years - both as a guest and as a popular interviewer. His most recent on-stage appearance was at the Gallifrey One event in Los Angeles, where he chaired the Classic Companion Round Table. See the YouTube footage of it here and here. He has also appeared at the Time Quest, Bad Wolf, Regenerations and Dimensions conventions, usually on behalf of Big Finish.
Dinnick started his writing career on the local newspaper, Esher News and Mail in 1986. He then specialised in business journalism, working on publications such as Director (the magazine published by the Institute of Directors) and Real Business as part of their editorial teams.
In the late 90s, he moved onto Internet Magazine. During this time he appeared on numerous TV and radio programmes as well as newspapers [1][2] and industry web sites talking about internet-related matters.[3][4] He was also shortlisted for the PPA's PTC New Journalist of the Year Award in 1999.
Later, he would go onto work on the City Desk of the Sunday Express and chair the Government Committee on Web Design Best Practice in 2002/3.[5]
Dinnick's first fiction was a short story for the production company and publisher, Big Finish Productions. This was for a Doctor Who anthology called Short Trips: Solar System, for which he contribute the story "Neptune".
It has been announced that Dinnick has written a Doctor Who novella for publication by Penguin Books in September 2011 called The Underwater War.
He has also written an original novel called "Dreamstorm" which is currently with his agent, Julian Blake at Blake Friedmann.[6]
Dinnck was recently announced as one of five runners-up in a nationwide scriptwriting competition run by Duracell.[7]
He has written scripts for several different franchises, largely for Big Finish.
According to his website,[8] he is also developing at least one unannounced audio script although it is uncertain for which company or franchise.
Dinnick was interviewed about his contribution to the 11th Season of Bernice Summerfield.[9] He has also been interviewed about his role as assistant producer on the 2nd Season of Sherlock Holmes audio dramas from Big Finish and has written a production dairy of the same which have both appeared in Big Finish's magazine, Vortex. A behind-the-scenes video appeared on the Big Finish YouTube channel regarding this season of Sherlock Holmes, featuring Dinnick, Nicholas Briggs and David Stuart Davies.
Dinnick is also contributing to Doctor Who Adventures weekly comic strip. His first story was published in issue #191, on November 4, 2010.
